A Word About Pricing: Books vs eBooks

Purchasers unfamiliar with the practicalities of producing conventional printed books versus the new electronic books on compact discs or available as downloads, may be surprised at the apparent discrepancy between the far less expensive ebook/CD-ROM of SIDESHOWS with its 203 high resolution photographs... versus the smaller abridged paperback book of only 49 photographs costing more than twice as much. The reason for this seeming paradox is production costs. Although reproducing less than a fourth of the images of the ebook, the traditional print version costs us more than fourteen times more money to produce. This is especially ironic because the less expensive ebook offers not only more reproductions but also reproduction quality superior to even the printed book's creditable reproductions, offering obviously greater brilliance when displayed on a good quality LCD computer monitor or television screen...and for a small fraction of the price. The greater luminosity of the photographs viewed by the intense backlight of a LCD monitor or TV is only one reason we believe that the ebook will be the preferred standard for quality photography books in the future. The diminutive physical size of a compact disc (or the insignificant space required on a computer's hard-drive), its archival superiority and, last but not least, the unprecedented economy of production, passed along to the consumer as an incredibly modest purchase price...as compared to the prohibitively exorbitant cost of the same book produced by traditional printing methods of arguably comparable quality.
